We have observed emergence of an international society where states, international organizations and non-state actors attempted to address global problems and issues. This course provides an overview of concepts, processes and outcomes of global governance. The course is divided into three parts. The first introduces the current global governance structure, core concepts and theoretical perspectives on global governance. The second part focuses on actors in global governance: international and regional organizations and non-state actors, and examines how they play roles for global governance. The third part deals with issues in global governance ranging from security, economic to social aspects. The course addresses diverse empirical cases, and analyzes how and why processes differ across different issue areas. As a wrap-up session, we will discuss effectiveness of global governance incorporating concepts such as power, authority and legitimacy. participation (40%), final exam (60%) 教科書は使用しない。/Will not use textbook 特に行わない。/Will not conduct guidance Introduction to Earth System Law and Governance In light of the potential far-reaching epistemological, ontological, ethical and normative implications of the Anthropocene, this course examines the complex, multi-scalar law and governance challenges arising from within an Earth System.
