The course will consider the place of Australia as a ‘settler nation’ within the larger transnational frame of British settler colonialism. What was distinctive about settler colonial societies, and what are their lasting impacts today? To address these questions the course will explore how the Australian continent became the focus of the British Empire’s strategic imperial goals after the American revolution, and subsequently a ‘new experiment’ in settler colonisation after the abolition of slavery. Students will learn about the importance of land in the development of settler colonialism, why Australia was distinctive from Britain’s larger settler empire in not forging treaties with Indigenous peoples, how Indigenous societies have co-existed with settler societies, and how different patterns of migration have shaped the ‘settler nation’ over two centuries. The first half of the course will investigate late 18th and 19th century developments in the Australian settler colonies and consider how those aligned with, or differed from, the development of other British settler nations. With reference to other parts of the British Commonwealth, the second half of the course will investigate developments in the Australian settler nation from the federation of the colonies in 1901 to the social transformations brought about by the civil rights era in the late 20th century. Readings will be available in digital form and students will also have access to digitised primary sources from historical records and newspaper collections. Assessment will be in two forms: a) a class presentation based on a selected list of topics (25%) b) an end-of-term essay based on a selected list of topics (75%) Further details on essay requirements, including due dates and topics, will be available early in the semester. その他。／OtherAnn Curthoys and Marilyn LakeConnected Worlds: History in Transnational PerspectiveANU Press, 2005978-1920942441freely available online through ANU E-Press 特に行わない。／Will not conduct guidance 開発・紛争・安全保障：人新世の「人間の安全保障」を再考する 【目標】 - 1990年代以降の開発と安全保障の融合や「人間の安全保障」概念が前提とする考え方およびそれらに基づく実践事例について理解したうえで、それらの課題やジレンマについても考察することができる。 - 2010年代後半以降（とりわけ2020年以降）に表面化した、開発と安全保障に関連する業界に対する批判や再考の動きを把握し、その展望を考察することができる。 【概要】 冷戦終結後の国際政治学や国連等での政策論議においては、既存の「安全保障」概念が見直され、「人間の安全保障」といった概念が提示された。同時に、主にグローバル・サウスにおける「新しい戦争」や暴力が問題視され、開発上の諸問題は戦争や暴力の発生リスクを高める要因とみなされた。研究や政策論議における開発と紛争予防や平和構築との境界線は曖昧化し、開発問題と安全保障問題は不可分のものとみなされていった。 本講座では、こうした認識に基づいて行われてきた研究や、条約等の合意形成、そして個々の現場での取り組みを紹介し、研究と実践の双方において生じた成果やジレンマ、課題を考察する。 とりわけ、講座の後半では、近年の#MeToo運動や新型コロナウイルス感染症をめぐる状況、Black Lives Matter運動の展開、ロシア・ウクライナ戦争やイスラエル・パレスチナの状況などを背景に生じてきた、開発・安全保障関連業界に対する批判や再考の動きに焦点を当てる。 期末テストは実施せず、期末レポートも課さない。 参加度（第2回以降の予習ペーパーやリアクションペーパーの提出）により評価する。 次の教科書を使用する。／Will use the following textbook榎本珠良開発・紛争・安全保障：人新世の「人間の安全保障」を再考する晃洋書房2025年3月刊行予定 第一回授業日に行う。／Will conduct guidance at first time 担当教員 榎本 珠良 担当教員 アマンダ ネテルベック、橋川 健竜 所属 国際関係 地域文化研究専攻 曜限 所属 曜限 対象 対象
