Through interactive lectures, classroom discussions based upon pre-assigned readings, case studies and the elaboration of a joint mini-project, students: 1) reflect from the critical perspective on the possibility to develop an intra-, inter- and trans-disciplinary analytical framework to better understand and respond to the legal dimensions of earth system governance; 2) discuss which normative foundations could help govern the full spectrum of Earth System relationships in a way that promotes planetary justice; and 3) examine which legal means could facilitate transformative earth system governance for long-term sustainability. Active participation in group/classroom discussions: 30%. Three 600-word write-ups: 30%. Final mini-project (organization of a roundtable + individual 1200- word essay): 60%. 教科書は使用しない。/Will not use textbook 特に行わない。/Will not conduct guidance Introduction to Economic Policy This course is designed to supplement a standard introductory course of economics and will discuss some of the fundamental concepts of economics, with a focus on examination of economic policies. Drawing on the basics of microeconomics with references to some more contemporary frameworks (asymmetric information, game theory, behavioral economics, etc.), the course will provide conceptual foundations for evaluating various types of economic policy, including trade policy, antitrust policy, policy on income inequality, and macroeconomic policies. While the knowledge of advanced mathematics is not required for course participation, the students should note that the lectures will include discussions of some mathematical economic models. Meanwhile, although the course mainly targets students who have already studied introductory economics, it sets no prerequisites for registration and is open to all students. 1. Short exercises Short exercises directly related to contents of each lecture will be given. 2. Longer assignments Two problem sets of several technical questions and a final essay assignment will be given throughout the semester. その他。/Other N.
