Students will create and deliver powerpoint presentations in class which will then be discussed and evaluated. In addition to classroom exercises and homework assignments, students are encouraged to listen to English on their own as well. We will also explore how ideas of social inequality in future societies is represented in films. Through learning and discussing these issues, students will develop their comprehension and communication skills in English. The course is designed to help you learn and understand important sociological issues, in English. You will learn new vocabulary, and also practice your English discussion and presentation skills. The exact topics covered will be decided in class and could include: Social Stratification Gender Inequality Impact of AI and robots on society Inequalities of Race and Ethnicity etc. Students will gain a better understanding of basic sociology, as well as use critical thinking to discuss possible solutions to some of the main social inequalities covered in the class. 20%: Learning Journal 30%: Presentation (including poster) (2x12.5% or 1x25% depending on class size) 25%: Timed-essay in class 25%: Active participation and contribution to the class その他。/Other No textbook is required, but students will have to watch two films themselves (DVD, digital, streaming, etc). 特に行わない。/Will not conduct guidance TED Talks - Discussions and Presentations The primary goal of this course is to develop students’ confidence in using English to converse spontaneously on a range of topics.
