講義題目 授業の目標概要 ここでいう「未来学」とは，未来と向き合うために教養人としてどのように現在を生きたら良いかに関わる⾒識を指す。講義題目 授業の目標概要 講義題目 授業の目標概要 この授業では20世紀の英語圏のノーベル賞クラスの作家の短編をいくつか精読し、２０世紀ヨーロッパの歴史や新しい文学形式に注意を向けながら、英語の読解力増進を図ります。精読の授業ですので、細かいニュアンスも含めてすべてを訳出していきます。その過程で、英語の表現に関して辞書を丹念に調べたり、文脈に応じての意味をじっくり考えたりする訓練をします。 時間割コード 50003 Ａ 時間割コード 50190 Ａ 時間割コード 50257 Ａ 開講 授業科目名 開講 授業科目名 開講 授業科目名 未来学入門 現在の傾向から未来の状態を予測する通常の未来学と違って，逆に想定される未来をもたらすには今どうあるべきかを考える backcasting の手法である。また，社会全体の体制がどうあるべきかではなく，それを構成する個人の内面を問題とする。科学者のモラルまたは一般人の科学知識が大いに問われる昨今，教養人が当然知っておいてよい⾒識である。 この授業では，数学者・生物学者・科学哲学者であるJ.Bronowskiの著書A Sense of the Future (1977, MIT Press)に所収された４つのエッセイを読み，そうした「未来学」のイロハを学びつつ，未来への向き合い方と現在の生き方を考えていきたい。授業で扱うテーマは，“A Sense of the Future”（未来と向き合う感覚），“The Creative Process”（創造のプロセス），“On Art and Science”（文芸と科学について），“The Reach of Imagination”（想像力が及ぶ範囲）の４つであり，こうした⾒識は当然ながら文理の垣根などない。やや古い著書であるがゆえに，古くて新しい普遍的なテーマを掘り起こしたり，現代的視点から批判的検討を加えたりする意味があるだろう。 Education and Society This course will introduce learners to a broad range of theories, issues and debates about the societal roles and functions of schools, universities and education systems around the world. Taking a sociological perspective, the objectives of the course are to: •Introduce learners to a range of theories and approaches to critically analyze the roles of education in society •Debate and discuss the ‘grand challenges of education’, namely the challenges of participation, relevance, flexibility, quality, and funding •Examine the relationships between schooling and national and global identity formation •Explore debates about social mobility and reproduction through education in the context of gender, ability, race and social class •Investigate the phenomenon of student-led social activism in varied socio-cultural contexts •Consider the challenges and implications for education systems in a century marked by rapid technological innovation and change We will engage with leading scholarship in the field, representations in the media, and our own educational experiences to explore these and other student-directed topics.
