時間割コード 50579 Ａ１ 時間割コード 60183 Ａ２ 時間割コード 60184 Ａ２ 講義題目 授業の目標概要 講義題目 授業の目標概要 講義題目 授業の目標概要 あなたの楽園はどこにありますか。日本人の楽園はどこにあるのでしょう。イギリス人の楽園は村にあります。「愛すべき農村」のイメージ。都会と違って恐ろしいことは何も起きない、知らない者が侵入してくることもない、皆が皆をよく知っていて、親密な人間関係のなかで、多少の悶着も厄介ごとも、すべてユーモアと笑顔と、ゆるいキリスト教的モラルで乗り越えられていく、居心地のいい楽園。そこで永遠に繰り返される生産のサイクル。春、夏、収穫、冬。今年も、来年も、いつまでも。いつか、薄汚れた都会など離れ、緑のコテージに住んで、そういう「本当に確かなもの」を手に入れるんだ。都会に寓居するイギリス人はそうやって、永遠の楽園としてのカントリーライフを夢⾒ているのです。 そういう「楽園」のイメージを、ヴィクトリア朝イギリスの画家、バーケット・フォスター (1825-99）の版画や水彩画が描いています。心ざわめくようで、それでいてどこか懐かしい、気がかりな夢の断片のような、イングランドの田園風景。今回、このクラスでテキストにするのは、そのフォスターの絵をふんだんに掲載した、画集のような伝記のような、マーカス・ボーン・ヒューイッシュ (1843-1921) による1890年出版の本です。 130年も前の格調高い英文ですので、少々読みにくいと感じる方もおいでかもしれません。文体もそうですし、内容的にも古いので、ある程度は調べながら読んでいかないと、うまく読解することはできません。授業で行うのは、ですので、そういったこと、つまり、テキストの精読、ということになります。テキストをきちんと精読するためには作法があり、それはどんな文章であろうと変わりません―現代英語の気楽な読み物だろうと、ヴィクトリア朝イギリスの華美な文体だろうと、千年前に書かれた古英語の断片だろうと、同じです。この「作法」を、まあ、お伝えしたい、そういう授業です。 開講 授業科目名 英語中級(クラス指定ターム開講 授業科目名 英語中級(クラス指定ターム開講 授業科目名 英語中級(クラス指定タームIntroduction to American Poetry Poetry is a short form of writing, but full of multiple meanings. It often evokes a strong emotional response from readers. Poetry lends itself well to close readings and discussion because it uses language flexibly. Nature is one of the major themes of American writing. The aim of this course is to reconsider ways of reading and seeing nature in American poetry, particularly focusing on how ethnicity, race, and origin play a factor in a given poet's influences and use of natural imagery and symbolism. We will first reexamine how authors who are well-known (canonized) for their use of nature, such as Emily Dickinson, and Robert Frost, depict the natural world from an "American" perspective. We will then examine poetry from 20th century minority and immigrant groups. Finally, we will read contemporary poems. We will also discuss the different symbolism assigned to nature in poems, and the definition of "ecopoetics." Media Literacy In this course students will practice reading and analyzing visual forms of media, chiefly advertisements. At the end of the course, students will submit a short essay that analyzes an advertisement that they have selected. 楽園はここにある―Marcus B.
