Global governance in International Society The concept of global governance has increasingly been important for last decades. We have observed emergence of an international society where states, international organizations and non-state actors attempted to address global problems and issues. This course provides an overview of concepts, processes and outcomes of global governance. The course is divided into three parts. The first introduces the current global governance structure, core concepts and theoretical perspectives on global governance. The second part focuses on actors in global governance: international and regional organizations and non-state actors, and examines how they play roles for global governance. The third part deals with issues in global governance ranging from security, economic to social aspects. The course addresses diverse empirical cases, and analyzes how and why processes differ across different issue areas. As a wrap-up session, we will discuss effectiveness of global governance incorporating concepts such as power, authority and legitimacy. Recreational activities for the promotion of fitness and wellness Provide an understanding of the fitness components and the importance of good strength, flexibility and endurance in physical health and wellness. Expose students to variety of activities that can be incorporated into a daily lifestyle. Apply the training principles for the management of the fitness components. The birth of modern science and its introduction to Japan (with related topics) This course will discuss the birth of modern science in Europe and the role of western science and technology in the modernization of non-western countries by mainly focusing on the history of Japan from the late 19th century to the 1950s. The following will be the main issues: diversity of the concepts of science and learning; the birth of science in the 17th century and its dissemination in the non-western world; the relation between science and technology; science and technology at crises; science and political thoughts. Participants will have chances to examine their ways of understanding what science means for their culture, society, and lives.
