The starting point is the basic evolutionary model and its elements, before turning to human history as an evolution of artifacts, involving exchange and reciprocity, and commodities as an ecosystem, considering energy and entropy. An evolutionary approach to economic history is outlined and monetary history is analyzed as evolution of monetary arrangements, considering units of account and media of exchange. In this course, we study the differentiation and integration of a function of one-variable (which is also called one-variable function or single-variable function). Intuitively, differential means the slope of the tangent line of a function at a given point, and integral measures the area bounded by the graph of the function and x-axis over a given interval. Both concepts need the concept “limit”, so the first part of this course will contain the definition of a function, limit of a sequence, continuous function and related topics. In the second part of this course, we study the differential of a function, the definition, calculation techniques, properties and applications. In the third part, we define the definite and indefinite integral of a function, study the fundamental theorem of calculus: the connection between differentiation and integration, and introduce the calculation techniques. Power series will also be introduced. In the end, we discuss how to solve some simple differential equations. Evolutionary Economics and A Monetary History Animals in modern and A contemporary Japanese literature This course introduces recent critical approaches to analysing the relationship between human and non-human beings, as well as theoretical reflections on how animals and nature are represented in art. It then explores the various ways animals are described in modern and contemporary Japanese literature, from the real cattle slaughtered in Tōson’s “The Broken Commandment, ” to the fantastic talking bear in Kawakami’s “God Bless You.” At the end of the course, students will be able to reflect on the role of animal representations in literature, engaging with the concepts of otherness, humanity, and death from a new perspective.
