This semester, the course will feature a series of remotely invited speakers who will introduce themselves and talk about their respective career. The speakers will join the class by videoconference to discuss their experience working as different professionals in various fields of work. The presenters are coming from various parts of the world, but most of them are working in Japan or with a company connected to Japan. There will also be two special panel sessions, one focused on unusual career paths, the other on work-life balance. This is a unique chance for students to learn more about different professions in order to help them make an informed decision about their own career choice, or simply to learn more about different professions, while practicing their listening skills in English. The objective of this course is to expose students to English as a lingua franca, the common language that enables us to converse with people who come from different cultures and speak different languages. The course aims specifically to expose students to different English accents (including non-native accents), and to interact directly with the various speakers.
