Discussions in class will be used to help with comprehension and to promote the active use of English. The course will include topics such as relationships, immigration, social protests and inequality. Texts may include newspaper articles, plays, political manifestos and extracts of academic texts. Technological Hauntings This class will consider the relationship of haunting and the occult to forms of modern media and technology, including the phonograph, the photograph, the telegraph, television, and film. Over the course of the semester, students will learn how modern media have, through processes of disembodiment and decorporealization, enabled the formation of discourses that yoke technology to conceptions of the spectral and ghostly. The primary purpose of this class is twofold. One is to enhance your English skills so high as to discuss a wide variety of global issues.
