In class, students will discuss topics related to contemporary Japanese society, namely gender, the body and popular culture. このクラスでは、日本の現代社会について英語で書かれた学術文献を読みます。内容は、ジェンダー論・身体論・ポップカルチャー等です。 Futurology: Imagining the World of Tomorrow Futurology (or Futures Studies) involves the study of the past and present to make educated guesses about the future. It draws on both the arts and sciences as a field of inquiry. It does this by grappling with complex philosophical questions concerning economic, political, cultural, and technological change but also by analyzing scientific data to make forecasts and predictions. In this introductory course we will examine how the future has been imagined in the past eras but also in our own era. Interdisciplinary in nature, the course will refer to ideas expressed in popular culture and the humanities as well as scientific studies.
