We have observed emergence of an international society where states, international organizations and non-state actors attempted to address global problems and issues. This course provides an overview of concepts, processes and outcomes of global governance. The course is divided into three parts. The first introduces the current global governance structure, core concepts and theoretical perspectives on global governance. The second part focuses on actors in global governance: international and regional organizations and non-state actors, and examines how they play roles for global governance. The third part deals with issues in global governance ranging from security, economic to social aspects. The course addresses diverse empirical cases, and analyzes how and why processes differ across different issue areas. As a wrap-up session, we will discuss effectiveness of global governance incorporating concepts such as power, authority and legitimacy. Introduction to Biology This course is designed to provide students with the essentials of biology. Biology = Science of Life. What are we? What is Life? What do living things have in common? What makes us, us? Introduction to earth science This is an introductory course for earth science covering planetary science, ocean science, atmospheric science, solid earth science, and life in the past. Introductory course in linear algebra Phenomena in natural and social sciences are usually complicated, and seldom described by linear equations. However, Linear Algebra is still powerful and effective in describing essential parts of the phenomena by linear approximation. Thus Linear Algebra has vast applications. Linear Algebra will further provide basics for considering infinite-dimensional linear spaces that appear in quantum mechanics or Fourier analysis. The ideas in Linear Algebra are broadly utilized in sciences and engineering, including agriculture, medicine, and economy, as well as in mathematics and physics. Although Linear Algebra is simple and clear in theory, one needs to be familiar with abstract concepts in mathematics to properly deal with it in practice.
