While starting with some of the epistemological problems of how to conceptualise East and West in the first place, and the implications of such concepts, our main focus will be on the formation of East Asian societies and the problems surrounding the integration of these "modernised" societies into the international order, the latter also undergoing significant change in this process. Topics will include: the dichotomies between (what are deemed) universal values on one hand and traditional social institutions on the other; the uneasy relationships between "modernisation" "westernisation" and "colonisation" in these societies; intellectual attempts to categorise and compare different civilisations; and how Myth, Memory and History are manipulated and recycled in such attempts. At a slightly deeper level, we aim to delve into some of the central issues related to how a student (or future graduate of this university) might form her/his intellectual identity as an individual who: a) was educated in a Japanese university, becoming part of Japanese society in the process; but b) wishes to operate in a global context, primarily (for better or for worse) in the English language. In this latter context, it will often fall on that future graduate to explain aspects of Japanese (or perhaps more widely East Asian) cultures and societies, and this will have to be done using a relatively universal language of concepts and categories, originating in European thought. In this seminar we will attempt to understand both the historical experiences of East Asian societies and the implications of the formation and existence of such a language. East-West Interactions and the Formation of Modern Societies 日本社会には、古くからさまざまな民族的・文化的背景を持つ人々が生活してきました。特に、'70年代からはインドシナ難民、'80年代からはアジアを中心とするさまざまな国々から来日する人々、'90年代からはブラジルやペルーなど南米から来日する人々が増え、社会の多民族化、多文化化は増していると言えるでしょう。 なかでも、幼少期に親とともに渡日し、日本の教育を受けて育った子どもや、外国出身の親のもとに日本で生まれた子どものことを、移民・難民第二世代と呼んでいます。 移民・難民第二世代の教育においては、不就学、マジョリティとの学力・進学格差、差別、家庭内言語や文化の継承の難しさ、アイデンティティの確立の難しさなど、さまざまな課題が指摘されていますが（Sセメスター「多文化社会と教育―移民の子どもたちをめぐる現状と課題の理解」""Comparative Study of Immigrant Education参照）、本ゼミでは、彼ら・彼女らの就職活動に注目します。 日本では現在、グローバルに活躍することが期待される「グローバル人材」の育成が産学官の連携のもと目指されており、企業のなかには少子高齢化による人手不足やグローバル化・社会の多様化への対応策として「グローバル人材」の積極採用を行っているところも少なくありません。しかし、移民・難民第二世代については、その民族的・文化的背景の多様性にも関わらず、大学または大学院卒業後の就職がなかなかうまくいかないという現状が報告されています。なぜ、移民・難民第二世代の就職はうまくいかないのでしょうか。この問いの探求から浮かび上がってくる日本社会の現状、グローバル化に対する課題とはどのようなものでしょうか。 本ゼミは、上記の問題関心で進めている大学とマイノリティ支援NPOによる共同研究プロジェクトに基づいて、関連する知識の習得、調査データの分析、ディスカッション、レポート作成のためのフィードバックなどをインテンシブに行います。 グローバリゼーションや社会の多様化、移民・難民、大卒労働市場などのテーマに関心がある学生のほか、社会科学系の研究活動に関心のある学生、NPOなどによるマイノリティ支援の活動に関心のある学生などに受講してもらいたいと思います。 ＜目的・目標＞ ・日本社会の多様化、企業のグローバル化への対応、移民・難民の若者の社会参加について理解を深めます。 ・マイノリティの社会参加をテーマに、平等・公正と多様性について理解を深めます。 ・さまざまな知識、データを収集し、それらを分析し、問いに対する答えを導くまでの論理的思考力、批判的思考力を磨きます。 ・参加者同士のディスカッションや互いの分析に対するフィードバックを通じて、ゼミ生全体での成果を最大化する方法を模索します。 担当教員 松原 健太郎 担当教員 高橋 史子 所属 法学部 所属 教養教育 高度化機構 曜限 単位 曜限 単位 2 1 対象 対象
