While starting with some of the epistemological problems of how to conceptualise East and West in the first place, and the implications of such concepts, our main focus will be on the formation of East Asian societies and the problems surrounding the integration of these "modernised" societies into the international order, the latter also undergoing significant change in this process. Topics will include: the dichotomies between (what are deemed) universal values on one hand and traditional social institutions on the other; the uneasy relationships between "modernisation" "westernisation" and "colonisation" in these societies; intellectual attempts to categorise and compare different civilisations; and how Myth, Memory and History are manipulated and recycled in such attempts. At a slightly deeper level, we aim to delve into some of the central issues related to how a student (or future graduate of this university) might form her/his intellectual identity as an individual who: a) was educated in a Japanese university, becoming part of Japanese society in the process; but b) wishes to operate in a global context, primarily (for better or for worse) in the English language. In this latter context, it will often fall on that future graduate to explain aspects of Japanese (or perhaps more widely East Asian) cultures and societies, and this will have to be done using a relatively universal language of concepts and categories, originating in European thought. In this seminar we will attempt to understand both the historical experiences of East Asian societies and the implications of the formation and existence of such a language. Students will be evaluated on the basis of participation in class and a final report, to be written on a topic agreed upon by the student and instructor. 授業中に指示をする。／Will specify at class time 特に行わない。／Will not conduct guidance East-West Interactions and the Formation of Modern Societies 1103教室 2.0 518教室 2.0 時間割コード 時間割コード 開講 講義題目 開講 現代世界の グローバル化とメディア グローバル化と情報化が急速に進展する中、世界の構造も日本の社会やシステムも劇的に変貌しつつある。国内外で活躍する人材には、国外の情報を的確に選別・分析し、世界の中における日本の位置や、世界全体の動きを冷静に見通す能力がますます必要とされている。この授業では、国外のメディアから出される情報を検討しながら、現代世界のグローバル化を考察する。変革期を乗り越え、グローバル化した世界でリーダーシップを発揮できる人材となるために必要な知識の獲得と情報分析技術の取得を目指す。 最初の授業で、受講者をヨーロッパ地域、アメリカ地域、アジア・アフリカ地域の三つのグループに分け、毎週各グループから一人ずつ、その担当する地域に関する重要な記事（日本語以外の新聞・雑誌からのもの）の報告と分析を行う。 選考を行うので、氏名、学生証番号、学年、科類、連絡先（メールアドレスなど）とともに、受講希望理由をA4サイズの紙一枚にまとめ、最初の授業に持参すること。 ※履修人数を18名に制限する。 授業での報告・ディスカッションを基に評価する。 授業中に指示をする。／Will specify at class time 第一回授業日に行う。／Will conduct guidance at first time 担当教員 松原 健太郎 法学部 水 5 担当教員 講義題目 高山 博 所属 所属 文学部 水 5 曜限 単位 教室 曜限 単位 教室 対象 対象
