You will read a variety of text such as newspaper articles, speeches, and short research papers during the term. It will help students to develop broad perspectives on social issues and better understand current events in the world. You will also develop academic interests for the future research through the readings. More detailed guideline will be provided later in class. Three Weekly Paper and Presentation (30%), Final Report (40%), Class Participation (20%), Attendance (10%) 教科書は使用しない。／Will not use textbook 特に行わない。／Will not conduct guidance In this course, students will learn about how literature and cinema handle the subjects of climate change and global warming in the genre of Science Fiction. In other words, we will study "Cli-Fi." Climate change is usually addressed from scientific, political, or social issues (e.g. poverty or food scarcity) perspectives, but in reality climate change and global warming have been important to science fiction since the turn of the 20th century. Through discussions, presentations, and written work, students will focus on how to approach climate change from an interdisciplinary standpoint, and develop their ideas about what steps society needs to take in the future.
