Taking a contemporary, thematic approach students will critically examine and consider authentic and semi-authentic texts in groups where texts will be revisited after in depth pre-class reading. The themes explored in class will be exclusively on contemporary British culture. At the end of this course it is expected that students will be able to critically consider and assess a wide range of contemporary topics of domestic and international significance. Students will find that the skills acquired in this class will assist in expressing themselves in other areas of their academic studies, and later in their professional lives. Assessment for this class will be based on evidence of completed homework reading (40%), active class participation, two forum-based presentations (30%), and a final assessment (30%).
